Patricia Hammond I caved it. I had too many things to do and not enough time in the day, so I tried an AI content generator to create a social media post.
The headline said, “Let AI create unique posts for your brand.” It sounded okay. I mean, I use AI to check grammar and review my content. Maybe it would be okay if it was scraping my website to build social media content. So I tried it.
It was an epic fail.
SEMRush’s AI Social Media Post Generator compared The Business Guild and solopreneurs to Kylie Jenner and her latest boyfriend..
I didn’t get it.
It made a valiant, or at least persistent, effort, but the comparison fell flat.
Setting aside the topic choice, the transitions were awkward and made little sense. If I had to describe it, I would say it was using trending keywords to game the search engines’ algorithms.
On the plus side, the generator did a nice job of collating and extrapolating content from The Business Guild’s homepage into a decent overview suitable for marketing. But the trending news parallels weren’t relevant and made little sense for promoting The Business Guild.
I guess if I was struggling to find a story idea, I could have used some of the generated content as a starting point.
It would have required a lot of editing, but I could have made it work. Fortunately, Lisa and I are never stuck for story ideas.
However you look at it, AI is here to stay. It has the potential to be a fantastic time-saver for small business owners, but it’s not there yet.
