A Year-End Challenge to Make a Little Marketing Magic 🗓️🎬✨

I'm trying to something new this month. I've decided that once a month, I'm going to throw out a business challenge.

Don’t worry, it’s not anything too difficult.

To kick things off, I’m challenging you to produce a series of three 1- to 2-minute year-end videos.

I know all the excuses. You’re too busy, it’s too hard, and you hate marketing.

I get it. I’m busy too.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t make a little marketing magic with a few super short videos. (If 1-minute is too long, try 30- to 45-seconds.)

This is your chance to showcase your brand and bring a little fun and playfulness to your marketing.

The format is up to you.

  • Live Action: Talking Heads & Interviews
  • Text over graphic background
  • Animated
  • Stop-motion
  • Whiteboard animation

The videos can feature any topic you want. The only rule is that it needs to be something that shows your brand’s personality and makes it memorable.

  • Company Year in Review: Highlight what your business has done this year.
  • Thank You: A fast, upbeat message thanking customers/vendors/partners for their support.
  • Stories: Do a quick video series featuring you and your employees’ favorite memories from the year. For example, the big presentation that almost didn’t happen or how a customer reaching out or a random attaboy turned a bad day around.
  • Humor: Make a series of funny, easy to share videos for social media. Animoto has a festive fun facts example featuring four fun facts about fruit cake, but it doesn’t have to be holiday-related.
  • Happy Holidays/Happy New Year: Set the holiday mood with festive music and images.

Keep it simple and upbeat, no overt selling.

Do it now so you can launch it in December.

If you’re really short on time, think about using AI to generate or edit your videos. Most of the AI video generators I’ve tried can take a basic script and create a video in less than 5 minutes.

It may not be as fun, but sometimes done is better than perfect.

Have fun! I can’t wait to see what you make.
